Australia 17 - England 20

Like many Englishmen I woke this morning wondering if yesterday was a cruel dream, after all my hopes have been dashed too many times by England failing to deliver the goods on the big occasion. However after 100 minutes of nerve shredding action, good lord I was a basket case during extra time, we saw an Englishman raising aloft a World Cup. But before we return to our daily routine I have a few thoughts. My hope is that the media don't forget that it was a team effort, not as some of the Sundays would have us believe, all down to a certain Mr Wilkinson. You can't setup a drop goal pocket on your own. Earls Court, London SW5 won't be the same for some time. John Howard's face during the award ceremony was a picture; it was worth watch just for that. Handing over the cup to Martin Johnson must have been the hardest thing he ever had to do. Politely remind every Australian you meet what the score was. It's only fitting after the partisan press coverage in the Antipodean press. Anyone have something for nerves? All we need now if for the England football team to do the same...but a part of me thinks that anyone reading this probably won't see it.
